The one thing I was told to do succeed in business…

“Find a group of people you like hanging out with and help them solve a problem”

Since then, I’ve been obsessed with figuring this out.

And although I’ve gotten some traction, I never felt on target.

Until now… after some, very short, 7 years later…

WHY IT TOOK SO LONG TO FIGURE IT OUT?

It took so long because I was just trying to make a living.

I was trying to solve MY problem first.

This makes sense, but this made me act from a place of scarcity and desperation.

Driving me to ask the wrong questions.

Instead of asking, who can I help and then how?

I was asking, what skills do I have that I can sell? and who may need them?

I was putting the cart in front of the horse without knowing it.

No wonder I was so obsessed with trying to figure out who my customer is.

So recently, I decided to do something different.

IDENTIFYING MY DREAM CUSTOMER

For me a dream customer, it’s not the client that pays a lot and agrees with everything I say.

But the one who when we work together it becomes rewarding for both sides.

Working with them, not only allows me to deliver crazy results but also challenges me to grow personally and professionally.

These are people that help you bring the best of you.

So this time, I decided to step aside and ask these 5 questions:

  1. What’s a group of people I love hanging out with?
  2. If I were to spend the next 5 years with them, would I still like them?
  3. Do I know them well enough to understand their challenges, aspirations, desires, and fears?
  4. What’s a challenge they tend to have?
  5. Can I help them with it?

The result was amazing.

The alignment I felt personally, and the speed things started moving is something I haven’t experienced in a long time.

What’s crazy about the whole thing is that in the end, my dream customer is me from a couple of years ago.

Meaning other people who are in a similar situation I used to be in about 3 years ago.

THE 1 THING MORE IMPORTANT THAN FIGURING OUT WHO YOUR DREAM CUSTOMER IS

If I would have waited to figure out who my dream customer is so I could get started, nothing would have happened.

The only reason I managed to figure out who I want to work with over the next 5 years, is because I started.

Not only is impossible, but it’s actually better not to have everything figured out as you start. Because everything you have planned in advance was done with limited vision.

There is no way you could know the opportunities that would show up 6 months down the road.

So get started, and constantly ask yourself, are these the people I want to hang out with for the next 5 years?

Are they in a similar situation I was about 3 years ago?

If the answer is no, it’s ok, continue moving forward. It will come.

But above all, start.

INTRODUCING THE GLOBAL HUSTLE

This newsletter started by focusing on Agency Owners looking to scale their business. While the goal is the same, we are shifting focus to better serve the person we can help most.

That’s why we are rebranding to The Global Hustle. A newsletter focused on expat entrepreneurs hustling to grow a b2b service business while living in a different country.

While they encounter similar challenges as agency owners, expat entrepreneurs start in a very different place.

With a lack of support on how to go from a 1-person business to having their team deliver the service for them, many get frustrated and close down.

That’s where we come in.

I hope you come with us and we help you realize your vision.
